Hereford Kayak Canoe

This is just across the river at Bycross Farm. They offer guided and unguided trips, taster sessions and group bookings. This is the closest kayaking option to Monnington House and Garden Cottage.

Wye Valley Canoes

Canoeing is by far the most popular activity whilst staying. Guests have gone to Wye Valley Canoes at Glasbury and canoed down a very pretty part of the Wye to Hay. You can stop at a pub enroute for lunch.

Clay Pigeon Shooting

HS Activities

Suitable for children aged 12+ and beginners or more experienced shooters. You could combine a clay pigeon shooting session with paintballing!

The Big Shoot – Kingsland

The Kingsland site spans 175 acres and has plenty of beautiful scenery to explore, including two picture-perfect lakes. But these views are nothing compared to the action itself; here, you’ll be blasting face-to-face with a plethora of tricky traps and targets, using some of the best shotguns you’ll find on any UK site.

Cycling & bike hire

Mountain biking is popular in the Brecon Beacons. you could consider The Taff Trail. There is a purpose-built XC ride at Hopton Wood near Ludlow. Or try cycling the Herefordshire Cider Route

Bike hire is available from Drover Cycles. They have a wide range of rental bikes for all ages and riding styles. Bikes are high quality and are cleaned and serviced after every hire, which means they are always in tip-top condition. They have a selection of e-mountain bikes, regular mountain bikes, leisure e-bikes, road bikes, hybrid/leisure bikes, and kids’ bikes and trailers. They will deliver to the house.

Fishing

Fishing on the Wye is within walking distance at Bulmers Angling Club, which offers membership to everyone. You can apply to become a member – see their website for details.

You can also find details of where to fish on the Wye and the Usk from The Fishing Passport, which is an online booking system run on a flexible, not for profit basis by the Wye and Usk Foundation.

Golfing

Burghill Valley Golf Club, approx. 17-minute drive: Surrounded by the beautiful scenery of Herefordshire, this course offers you the perfect opportunity to enjoy a game of golf and relax. Both visitors and societies are welcome to enjoy the course.

Kington Golf Club: The course provides a great test of golf, on a layout offering unrivalled views of seven historic Counties. The fast-draining heathland terrain renders the course playable throughout the year.

Leominster Golf Club – approx. 30-minute drive: A beautiful golf course with eighteen very different holes, each with a different challenge designed to test your skills to the limit.

Sapey Golf Club – approx. 50-minute drive: Offers league play, private events, and world-class group outings to players of all ages.

The Herefordshire Golf Club – approx. 20-minute drive: Founded by the legendary James Braid, offering far reaching and stunning views of the Shropshire Hills, the Brecon Beacons and the Malverns. The most historic golf course in Herefordshire coupled with the Causeway Restaurant, Bar and Terrace serving the finest local produce.

Other Activities

Join Angela Jones Swim Wild for a plunge in the River Wye. For inexperienced wild swimmers, Angela Jones offers tuition and will come to Monnington House, Garden Cottage and the Cider Mill if booked in advance. Angela can provide wetsuits, tow floats, hats and goggles, water shoes and changing robes or purchase or hire before or on the day to ensure comfort and safety are paramount to your wild swim experience.

Hereford Squash Tennis & Racketball Centre is a thriving and progressive club providing first class, excellently managed, sports and social facilities, for both members and the wider community in a welcoming, positive, safe and inclusive environment.  There are 5 first class squash courts, 4 resurfaced tennis courts with LED lighting, 2 all-weather padel courts.

Herefordshire Raceway bring you the highest quality kart racing entertainment.  The challenging 600 metre outdoor circuit has been designed with safety in mind but with fast sweeping curves and tight hairpin bends.  It provides an awesome racing experience.

Quad biking and go karting with Monnow Events who can tailor things from just a couple of hours to half and full-day events.

Horse-riding is available at Bryngwyn Riding Centre, a small, family run, friendly riding stables offering horse riding hacks and riding lessons whether you are a total beginner or more experienced.

We have an arrangement with Eardisley Tennis and Croquet Club. Guests can contact the club and apply to play, depending on court availability. The club also runs summer Tennis Camps for children. Contact them directly for more information.

Gina Lucy Yoga is in nearby Weobley. You can drop into her classes subject to availability or arrange for her to visit and teach privately.
